STA Becomes a Member of Leefung Group


With the transfer of shares from Toppan HQ to Toppan Leefung (Hong Kong) Limited completed on 25 January 2018, Shanghai Toppan Advertising Co., Ltd. officially joins Leefung Group. Henceforth, it will be renamed Toppan Leefung Advertising (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.

STA has a 19-year history since its incorporation in China in 1999. Its initial business was to provide support services for Japan Tobacco in China and at the same time, source for attractively priced but high quality products in China and then exporting them to Japan. Over time, it gradually shifted to providing below-the-line (BTL) advertising support to its customers. These services include the design and production of sales counters in shopping centres, planning and implementing promotional activities, road shows and trade exhibitions, etc.

STA’s base is in Shanghai with a branch in Beijing and a sales office in Guangzhou. Total staff strength is about 100 and its annual sales volume is around RMB300 million. Its strengths are in the planning, designing and catering to the needs of its customers as well as its experience in product management. As it does not have any production facility, all its production works are outsourced.

Another advantage that STA has is that many of its staff can communicate in Japanese, having been immersed in Japanese corporate culture over the years. At the same time, with the deployment of Japanese employees from HQ to STA offices all year round, it enjoys unparalleled advantages overits competitors in serving Japanese customers. Its list of VIP clients includes Shiseido, Unicharm, Kao, Panasonic, Casio, Kanebo, Canon, Subaru and Honda. Through market expansion in recent years, it has developed a good reputation among non-Japanese companies as well and these are Disney, Samsung, NordicTrack, American Standard and Herborist.

Placing STA under Leefung, Toppan HQ hopes that STA’s localization plans will speed up and its management and operational efficiencies be enhanced. At the same time, STA will be able to share resources with Leefung’s sister companies to help it further accelerate into the non-Japanese market.
